Superstar Supervision

3 CMTE Credits

About The Course

Internship is meant to assist in building a solid and holding foundation for the budding Music Therapist. Internship should be a time to build confidence, sharpen skills, develop coping and resiliency and discover professional identity. However, for many MT interns, the internship experience can feel overwhelming, stressful and unsupported. Some MT interns may leave internship without a clear coping plan in place and more vulnerable to the threat of burnout and other occupational hazards. Our goal as supervisors should be to empower and provide meaningful guidance. The Superstar Supervision course suggests a new approach to supervision which adequately supports the whole person therefore encouraging self-awareness and lasting growth for the MT intern.

This course provides attendees with an opportunity to delve deeper into the meaning of effective supervision. Participants will learn from the Medicinal Melodies Superstar Supervision curriculum model which focuses on empathy-based supervisory techniques and is built upon humanistic philosophy and resiliency focused methods.  This course provides examples of research based supervision strategies and will provide attendees with the opportunity to create their own internship/practicum curriculum. Course registrants will receive a multitude of resources (guideline/protocol documents, assessment/evaluation documents, sample schedules, welcome packet and supporting professional development assignments)  along with the narrated power point presentation and access to an online supervisor support group.
